Biology
ECO Division project
In this project, the class learned about tragic environmental events that take place in our very own backyards. We learned about coral bleaching, rising sea temperature and climate change. We then informed the community about it by hosting an exhibition at our school to show off what we had learned, and the affects it has had on our marine life for decades. We additionally gave a free interactive workshop to elementary and middle school students where they were able to participate in activities and get a closer look at some ornamental marine species (fish) we had in our classroom.
Ecosystem project model
In this mini- project, we studied different types of ecosystems including all of the organisms that live within it and how they all coexist in the same community. In this project we created 3D models of different ecosystems and demonstrated a way humans have interfered with the natural cycle of it. An example of an interference is deforestation or over fishing which is something we had to find a way to show within our model.
honors Biology
In addition to my regular biology class, I also took an extra Honors course for two full semesters. In this course we read bi-weekly scientific articles relating to the topics we had learned about in class. We would then discuss the articles in depth in groups of 4 or 5 and took tests on the material individually.
This is an example of one of my favorite articles that I read in Honors biology.
