10th GrADE
Chemistry
My view of science has changed by opening my eyes to the reality of food. I know that learning about food Chemistry impacted me because it was what we decided to base our project on. It made me want to share all the knowledge I had about foods like gmo's and what kinds of foods are better for you. My favorite lab that we did was when we got so see how much sugar was actually in our soft drink. I liked this lab because I stopped drinking soda in the seventh grade and to actually see how much sugar goes into our bodies was incredible and almost disgusting. By doing this activity I learned a little more on how to monitor the amount of sugar I take in and a little bit about portion control.
My goal for second semester would be to continue what I've been doing and continue on my path to being more of an observant person in my day to day life. I know that I will now be much more keen to look over nutrition labels before consuming any kind of food.

Case Study project
Haitian Money Pit
In this study we learned that Haiti is still recovering from the earthquake that hit them a couple years ago. When I say still recovering, I mean that their living conditions are extremely harsh. We learned that even after all these years that have gone by they are still in a state of immediate needs. They received a lot of funding and donations to help them recover but most of that money was not spent wisely. several cities still look like the earthquake hit yesterday. This was because the people who were helping Haiti, didn't work with the community they just gave them things that they might not necessarily need.
Family History Narrative project
In this mini project we practiced interviewing several family members. One of the goals of this project was to learn more about your families history. We also got to learn things we never knew before. I interviewed my Grandma, my Grandpa, and my Father. I decided to write about my grandpa and my grandma. I learned about the way they met and the story of their love. Which to my surprise was a bit like Romeo and Juliet, but with a much happier ending.
Book Club project
Into the Wild
For this semesters book club I read a book called Into the Wild. After reading a certain amount of chapters I would meet with other students in my class to discuss what we had read in an orderly manner. We would talk about what stood out to us or what we didn't understand. We were assigned roles at each meeting so things would flow a little smoother. The meetings were extremely helpful when it came to things I didn't understand. I would ask many thought provoking questions; it was nice to know others were just as curious as I was.

Spanish
My First Semester As a Spanish Learner
This semester has been great. I was able to learn about Mexican traditions, learn about the culture, and improve grammatically in my native language. My favorite part of Spanish class was getting the weekly readings. I've never been able to read Spanish, but it was great to see the progress I made week after week. One highlight would be doing the Dia De Los Muertos celebration. I had always wondered why it was celebrated and what it was and I got the opportunity to help run the event as a face painter. It made me a little uncomfortable at first but after I started to understand the reasoning behind it I finally realized why it was so popular. I also enjoyed writing a poem to honor my grandmother. I was surprised when I wrote the poem. I had never even written one in english and when I had to do it in Spanish I kind of just went for it and was really happy with it in the end.
My Goal for Next Semester
My goal for next semester would be to practicing my Spanish more at home. I feel like I've been getting better at reading it each week but one thing I didn't do that I wanted to was to practice it at home more. My other goal would be to figure out what accents on letters do and where they go because that has been my main problem this semester.
